The Geology of the Melbourne Region: Our Place in a Plate Tectonic World
Events, Public Lectures — By Cristen Teen on 9th November, 2010 at 1:02 pmWhile the Plate Tectonics Revolution of the last 40 years has changed the way we look at our planet and its behaviour, there is often a failure to relate this to the ordinary geology we see around us on a local scale.
In this free talk, Professor Andrew Gleadow, Head of the School of Earth Sciences, will discuss the geology of the Melbourne region and how it relates to the origin and evolution of the much larger Australian Plate, where we reside. Find out how the various stages of geological evolution have impacted local geology, and how the now distant boundaries of the Australian Plate still influence our region today.
This event is part of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS) Science Talk series. All are welcome (bookings not needed) and there will be free pizza and drinks after the talk.
